According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, independent contractors accounted for 7.4% of total employment, up from 6.4% five years earlier. Other temporary staffing arrangements registered little or no increases during this same period. On-call workers accounted for 1.8% of total employment, temporary help agency workers accounted for 0.9, and contract workers accounted for 0.6 percent.
